I Smell Roses

Haven't you heard? The student-made video that has become so viral that it has been plastered on ESPN was created in the university's very own School of Journalism and Communication. Despite its extraordinarily high-quality production, the video has not been warmly received by university officials who say that the use of The Duck in the video infringes on copyright agreements between Disney and the University of Oregon.

Although I recognize the importance of maintaining cordial relations with the conglomerate, we, as students, pay the university to pay Disney to use the icon. Thus, these students technically share ownership for this figure. I understand that The Duck is to be used in authorized activities, but I suggest retroactive approval of this activity.

The video is clean, clever, and full of school spirit.

It makes me proud to be part of the School of Journalism and Communications at the University of Oregon. The video took them time, and these guys found a way for the stuff they learn in class to have meaning for them. This video is the kind of thing that they should be getting paid for. Their passion and skill seeps from the screen! It is extraordinarily impressive and I congratulate them on their ability to create such a fantastic clip.
