This week has been one of breakups. Not for me, (thanks lucky stars!) but for my two best friends.
Jessica, who has been dating David for a little more than a year, ended her relationship early this week because of an "inability to ‘mesh.'" It was pretty sad to see them split because they had decided to move in together this term, and Jessica wasn't quite convinced that their relationship had run its course.
But Jess is strong and has been handling her living situation with poise and a good sense of humor. She has been spending more time with me lately, which has been great. We haven't spent this much time together for almost two years.
The year we met, neither of us had boyfriends in the same town, so we spent our time studying, doing laundry, working out, and just being two girls.
So this week, we have been living in a flashback, but a somewhat more fulfilling one because we know each other better now and have a deeper love for one another.
On the other hand, we just met a girl who has become somewhat of our third...well, third. Although we just became friends this term, has become one of the best friends I have ever had.
One of the first things we did together was find her a tall, dark, and handsome fella to spend some time with. In no time, she was dating Payaam. But the whole relationship was spent trying to figure out how to get along, which quickly proved to be a challenge.
So the other day, Payaam and Kinsley broke up. And when she called me to talk about it, we decided that the three of us girls needed to be in Portland, guyless, focusing on our final paper, which we divided up among ourselves so as to make the process easier on each of us.
That is one of the best parts about being in our early 20s. When we decide that we need a break, we can always skip town and go to one of our parents' houses to get away from our daily lives. It is so easy to pack our things and fly away. It is such a free time, and I doubt that any other time in our lives will be as carefree and mobile.
(Thanks lucky stars-for college years).
