Every holiday season, it is my job to bake the holiday cookies. This job isn't assigned by others necessarily because I love to do it. But now that I have made a habit of it, my loved ones expect it.
So this weekend, as the holiday ran its course, I baked several batches of cookies to sustain the dessert menu for a few days.
Now, before I leave for school again, I am dropping the last batch into the oven so that my dad can enjoy them until I come back again for the winter holidays.
Baking cookies is great. There is a formula, which allows you to trust what you are doing. It is quick, so you know that your project will reap results as soon as you finish. And now, I have found a friend who loves to do it with me.
This term, the fall of my senior year, I met a friend who is perfect for me. She is sweet, smart, funny, polite, and honest. I didn't think I would ever meet a girl whom I could get along with so well. But I did.
She has been my best friend this term. She and I have studied together, gossiped together, worked out together, eaten too much together, and now, she has stayed at my house and we have baked cookies together.
I can't remember a time when I had a friend stay the night and had so much fun. This friend of mine stayed the weekend at my house while the holidays passed. She is from California, so she came to Portland to avoid being the only one in Eugene for Thanksgiving.
It is so nice to finally meet someone whose values and interests parallel mine so well. It is funny that it is at the end of college, but it's good to know that friendships are constantly surfacing no matter where in life we are.
