Well, it's Sunday late afternoon, which means that I'm in need of a study break, so I might as well share with you all the excellence of last week. I put in a bunch of photos that don't need much explanation because they really speak for themselves. The highlight of the week was the ASUO Street Faire, as it usually is whenever it arrives at campus. In short, the Street Faire happens twice a year, in the Fall and Spring, on our beloved 13th Street in the heart of campus. There are all sorts of booths where students can get food, clothing, art and usually some Peace Corp or Study Abroad tables set up shop just for the heck of it.
The second picture is of one student working for some outdoor supply store in Eugene. I really should have written down their name, because I feel like I should be doing them a little more justice, but this guy walked up and down 13th Street all afternoon wearing half of a kayak. It's pretty much just a taste of the "anything goes" mentality of the Street Faire. Usually, some student bands find an open spot between booths or in the quad to play some music. My personal favorite is the guy that beat boxes while playing the flute. He's a regular on campus. At least when it's sunny out like it was last week.
The next highlight for the week was the On the Rocks performance. On the Rocks is one of our two a cappella groups - Divisi is the female group - and every Friday at 4pm they come to the EMU amphitheater to play a free mini-concert for anyone that shows up. You can take a look at the guys singing in the last photo. They're really good and they're really funny too. I kind of have a soft spot in my heart for the amphitheater because it was the place on campus where I decided that I wanted to come to Oregon. It was in the Spring of my senior year in high school when I came to Duck Days (a big admissions recruitment day) for a campus visit. Just as I finished up the day, I walked outside with my mom to find On the Rocks and Divisi were outside. The entire student body was outside. Sunglasses on and big smiles across their faces. It was a pretty sweet moment and I remember thinking to myself, "I want to be a Duck."
Okay, my break is over now and I have to get back to reading some Landscape Architecture. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. It's just so unfortunate that this week ends with my nose being dug into a textbook. Oh, well.
