Senior Year. This is it. The last year of fun before entering the real world, whatever that means. It's a time for new beginnings and switching things up. Transitioning from California life back to Oregon life usually proves to be challenging but it will all settle in due time.
I'm excited for the upcoming year. Classes don't start until the end of September (yahoo!) but that isn't all that I came back to Eugene for. Ducks Football starts again on September 4th against New Mexico. Dave Matthews Band is playing a concert at the Amphitheater in the Columbia River Gorge that same weekend, so I'm already torn between activities. And I'll be working back at Facility Services until school begins. So, I'll have plenty to do.
Plus, I have a whole new house to move into! Like I said in previous posts, we're moving to College Hill right behind Emerald Stadium, and our house is flippin' sweet. Words cannot describe exactly how excited I am for this new university life bungalow. Three stories, humungous living room, basement hang out room and a bedroom that isn't the size of a walk in closet (like my last room). Also, the latest update in the house, we have a new roommate, Bob. Now it's six guys under one roof. Should be fun.
I've been working all weekend to turn my room into the Shangri-La that I'm hoping it will become. My room last year was so tiny that I could barely make my twin sized bed fit. Now I've got all the room in the world to play around with. It's amazing! I just need a whole lot more pictures to hang on the walls. Plus, I have a spectacular view of Eugene from my window. Check out the picture above.
For the rest of the house we have two rules. The first rule is that our house is going to be classy. We're "Classin' It Up" as we say it. We've installed a wine rack and stemware holders into our kitchen cabinets. No more decorating the walls with old, unframed movie posters held up by duct take. Trust me, it's not that difficult to live classier than the way we did the last few years.
The second rule is that every single nook and cranny of the house must be fun and/or interesting in some way. Consider it our "No Closet Left Behind" policy. We have lots of ideas floating around. As of yesterday the laundry room has a couch and magazines on a coffee table to make it feel like a waiting room at the doctor's office. I'm seriously considering hanging an upside down tomato plant outside my window. We're even planning on finding ridiculous wallpaper for inside of the coat closet under the stairway. Who knows, we might end up putting an extra TV and lounge chair in that closet just for fun.
All I can say is that I'm disappointed that we didn't find this house sooner. It may be our last year in Eugene but at least we're going out in style.
