Happy Halloween! I hope you're all putting the finishing touches on your costumes and getting ready to head out trick-or-treating. My roommates and I are watching my San Francisco Giants play in Game 4 of the World Series and resting up after a superb Halloween weekend.

Last year my roommates and I set the bar high with our "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" costumes, and I'm pleased to say that we lived up to the hype this Halloween season. In fact, we may have outdone ourselves. You may or may not be able to tell from the picture above, but my roommates and I dressed up as cereal box characters for Halloween 2010.

From left to right in the photo, we have Winston as "Tony the Tiger," Kevin, Steven and Ross as "Snap, Crackle & Pop" and me as "The Lucky Charms Leprechaun." Our friend, Trey, is in the background as none other than "Where's Waldo." He did his best to poke his head in as many photos as he could on Friday night. It was annoying but I have to hand it to him. He played the part well.

Friday night we invited our friends over house to celebrate and showoff their costumes, but the best part of the evening happened before any of the festivities began. Around 7 o'clock we put on our costumes and decided that our outfits needed one more accessory to tie everything together. We hopped in Ross' car, still in costume, and drove to Safeway. In a single file line we walked straight to the cereal aisle and picked out a box of our respective cereals; Kevin, Steven and Ross split a family-sized Rice Krispies. We could hardly keep ourselves from bursting out in laughter as the cashier rang us up. There were several good costumes walking around Safeway, but I think we were one step above the rest.

We came home as our friends started trickling in. Just as we expected everyone was fully dressed. Group costumes were the common theme for this year. Mötley Crüe graced us with their presence. One group dressed up as the Solar System with the moon, sun, stars and a spaceship. Another group of girls came as Marilyn Monroe, Madonna and Amy Winehouse. Some of the single costumes were Ace Ventura, Minnie Mouse and Rosie the Riveter. Tracy dressed as a ‘Cereal' Killer, which my roommates and I didn't aprreciate in the slightest.

Having experienced three October 31sts as a University of Oregon student, I've learned one thing in particular. There's no such thing as Halloween night in Eugene, there's just Halloween weekend, and you won't survive without at least two costumes for Halloween in Eugene.

Last night I took some inspiration from my Giants and threw together a solid costume as Brian "Fear the Beard" Wilson, the crazy yet loveable closer for the San Francisco Giants.

If you don't know who Brian Wilson is then I recommend finding a photo of him on the web. The most important part of the outfit is Wilson's distgustingly thick, jet-black beard. I picked up a box of "Just for Men Brush-In Color Gel" in the afternoon to dye by beard, had Ross buzz my hair into a Mohawk, and wrote "FEAR THE BEARD" on the back of the "Giants 2010 National League Champions" t-shirt my mom sent me. It took dedication and a leap of faith of sorts but I think I pulled it off all right. I'd love to post a photo, but I would rather not let the entire world know how ridiculous I looked.

Just as I've been writing this post, trick-or-treaters have knocking on our door. We were wonder if any kids would be walking around College Hill. Only two groups have come by so far, and we're pretty sure one of them was college kids, but there's still time.

Happy Halloween!
