Strutting out of PLC this afternoon under a blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds, I had a smile plastered on my face that I still can't shake. Why? I've finished the rough draft of my thesis. I can't express how exhausted I am of looking at a computer screen watching the cursor strobe in front of me as I ponder my next thought. It's taken months of reading, research, and writing, but the end is very near. I will be officially done in two and a half weeks with the thesis process (my defense is on May 26th), but for now I will take glory in this huge personal milestone: I've written a thesis.
Thus, to celebrate I quickly strode across the quad from PLC and unlocked my bike from the bike rack outside Chapman Hall. I pedaled over to McMenamin's and enjoyed a sunny afternoon with friends Cody and Drew. Cody congratulated me as I sat down at the table, and Drew inquired about my progress saying, "Oh, so it's only the rough draft."
Wanting to bite Drew's head off, I quickly shot back the response, "Jeez Drew, you don't know what I've been through in the last 48 hours." I had literally been working on my thesis every waking hour for the last two days, so I was pleased with my achievement as well as a little bit chippy. Anyway, I went on to explain to Cody and Drew that I met with my advisor earlier in the week, and he expressed that I had minimal revisions to do. That means that my thesis is just about done. I know it's not quite time to celebrate because I do have some touch up work and a defense to prepare for and complete, but I can see the finish line.
I will keep you posted about the remainder of the process, and with any luck the entire process should be completed on May 26th. I can't wait.
