I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE cats! They are my sunshine on a cloudy day and they make my life warm and fuzzy and puuurrrrrfect. Unfortunately, my husband is allergic and my landlord is opposed to us even having an outdoor pet. So I am left completely kitty-less at this point in time.
This is a problem. Kitties are the best escape from homework, stress, or just a sad day. The good news is I live in a neighborhood that is full of friendly, fluffy, cuddly cats who come running when they see me headed their direction. I'm sure I'm the talk of the cat community as the short lady who would pet a cat for hours. They all seem to come by and see if these rumors are true. They are.
As I mentioned in my previous blog, I have been working on a pretty significant paper this last week. I can't remember the last time I was working to finish a paper the week before it was due, much less write the entire thing. However, the way scheduling worked out I did just that.
There were times in this process I desperately needed a break and really wanted a little kitty lovins. So I bundled up and headed out into the gray, wet afternoon looking for any kitty that might be out in the yucky weather who would let me pet it. I wasn't expecting to find any cats out and about and whispered a little prayer in my mind about how nice it would be to find a cat. I barely had enough time to finish my thought when a bright orange dot in the distance caught my attention. It was RUNNING at me! I kept walking closer and low and behold, as we got closer together I saw that it was a kitty! Yay! I had to giggle to myself, I whispered a thank you and met up with the already purring feline.
His name was Sammy and he was so cool! He and I hung out on the side of the road in the rain for a good 20 minutes before I decided I needed to head back home and keep working on my paper. I had to start making my way back home jogging while I held the hems of my pant legs up out of the puddles to keep Sammy from following me right on home. I must have looked so funny half jogging, holding my pants funny, with a huge smile on my face.
I trotted up the stairs and wound my way back into the office, sighing as I slid back into my big grey office chair to stare at the computer screen for a few more hours. I couldn't keep from continuing to smile though. Cats are the best therapy ever!
