Construction Everywhere

Well for those of you who don't know (and actually for those of you who do know) the theater here at the University of Oregon has been remodeled. It is absolutely beautiful. I have classes out in McKenzie hall almost every day and I have been watching the building go up slowly, but surely every day of every term. It was so bare at first and then one day the gates were down and there was concrete set in place. I couldn't believe it. It was like a whole new world back there.

Well anyway, they had the first showing in the new theater Friday night. Around the World in Eighty Days was the play that was performed. I was lucky enough to get tickets and go to it. It was an awesome show. The cast was awesome. I remembered the high school play I went to and I was a little nervous. I mean the kids at my high school had some talent and I don't remember them missing any lines, but it was not what one would call spectacular. In any case, this performance was nothing like the one I was remembering. These actors had way more talent and more practice than those of my high school. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The theater was awesome too. I sat almost in the back and I had a perfect view of the stage. I heard that the theater was designed so that every seat was a great seat. My friends that went were sitting a little apart from us and said that their seats were also great. I loved my seat. I could see the background and everything going on onstage, but I was not in a position where I could see things going on backstage. That was good. The acoustics are also awesome. I never saw a production in the old theater because it was closed so the new one could be built, so I can't compare it personally, but from everything I have heard of students and faculty saying, it sounds like this new theater was a great improvement.

The UO has some other construction going on too. Right outside my dorm there is some construction going on. They are building a new basketball court (I think it is suppose to be done for the next school year, but I might be wrong) right by the dorms I live in (Bean). I just have it so lucky here in Bean. I mean they put bars on our entrances, the plexy glass between the bars has started going in, and there is a lot of construction around it. It just keeps getting better and better. At least they are nice enough to start the construction at a later hour in the morning. The guys working on the plexy glass started working early one morning and woke up a lot of the hall. I guess they just wanted to get things going. I wish they wouldn't go through with these bars though. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it and I'm only living here a few more months. I think I will survive. I don't plan on living on campus next year and if I do I won't live in Bean. Well it is quite a late hour and I'm starting to get sleepy. So until next time...
