I am so happy today! Not only did the Ducks beat UCLA in an AMAZING game, but I went to the fish store!!! For me going to an aquarium shop is like being a kid at the candy store. There are many different kinds to choose from, with all different shades of color and personalities. Personality? Yes, some are more aggressive then others. I grew up raising fishes while other kids were taking care of hamsters, dogs, and cats. And yes, I do name them.
I went to Liquid Sunshine today, after getting their newsletter about their fall sale. They are doing a 20% off on everything in their store this weekend, and I just had to see whats there. I ended up with a crown tail beta. He was living in a tank filled with tetras instead of the little cup his other friends were in. I felt really awful for taking him with me to live in small and perhaps more boring home. He currently lives in a glass vase that I had picked out with some red marbles to accompany his beautiful blue and magenta color. Beta's are probably the most easiest fish to take care of since they require little space, and can breath directly from the surface of the water.
Your probably reading this and thinking what a weird topic I'm ranting about, but I have an obsession. Maybe a little addiction with raising fish. A friend once referred to me as the "crazy fish lady" for my enthusiastic Facebook status about hatching my 3rd batch of Angel fishes. Anyway, the beta is doing fine in his new home. He likes to swim around his plant and occasionally dance in front of my sister which she has dubbed Mark Twain, her favorite author.
I find the stereotype that, "fishes are boring" to be quite annoying. Given a nice and healthy home, I'm sure one would find it is rather peaceful and interesting to care for them. If you don't already have a fish go out and buy one! Of course please be aware that you don't just stick them in the tank and it'll live happily ever after. Some fishes like angel fishes, require, larger tanks, heat, and a little salt in their water, so do your research before you decide on raising one. They are definitely fun to watch when you need a quick break from school work.
