‘Tis The Season

January, fresh back from winter break, I have successfully completed week one. I love week one, which you can read more about if you breeze through my archived posts. Week one of winter term is something to cherish. You must savor the ease back into school and the joy of new classes because after week one, you better start running.

‘Tis the season, on top of your regular coursework and jobs, to start filling out those scholarship and internship applications! A couple of them will be due by the end of the month, most all of them by March 1. They all want to know what your career goals are and how they will personally influence your attainment of these goals if you become one of the chosen. They'd like your flawless resume, a transcript, two letters of recommendation, another essay on what your thoughts on current public policy are, and some sort of wow factor that you need to figure out on your own how to fit into a given 1" x 1" provided square. Well, season, I'm ready!

Next year, my fifth year, my Dean's Scholarship runs dry. I need to find other sources. Not only do I need to find them, but I need to find them during a time when the remaining ones have become increasingly competitive. I encourage all readers to take this time to think of me desperately filling out scholarship applications all hours of the day and night, sacrificing my weekends for the sake of my education, and then go onto the UO Annual Giving website and donate some money to our students! You know, I'm pretty sure you can specify where exactly you'd like to donate your funds, so I'm just saying that my name is Korrin and my student ID number is...

Just kidding, of course. Well, kind of.

Anyway, I also mentioned internship applications. I am hoping to land an awesome internship for this summer and now is the time to start applying. Some of the programs I am applying for only accept around twenty or thirty students - nationwide! Therefore, I have to put a lot of work into my applications to make sure that my shinning Duckness truly stands out of the pile. Some groups I'm applying with are the American Red Cross, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Carter Foundation, and the U.S. Department of State. I can't wait for that moment when everything is in and then you just wait. I'm so excited! Wish me luck!

Tomorrow is week two. I need to start stretching for the race.
