Spamalot at the Hult Center

I am always so excited when I do new things in Eugene. This is my junior year, yet there are so many wonderful aspects of the Eugene community that I have yet to explore. I am so excited to finally be jumping into the unknown. For example, the Hult Center. I had never been to the Hult Center until last Wednesday when I went and saw "Spamalot," a musical stage version of Monty Python, performed with a friend.

The Hult Center is so cool! The inside is so big and beautiful and contains a couple stages. The bottom floor has an art gallery that changes every few weeks. When I was there, a showing of artwork by Berta and Elmer Hader was being displayed. Apparently the Haders are from Oregon and have had their work displayed on several of John Steinbeck's novels (very cool). A large collection of their work was just found by a relative living in Roseburg, Oregon and so was on loan to the Hult Center's art gallery. It was so neat to look at this historical, beautiful work from the grand state of Oregon. The endearing quirkiness of Oregonians could be seen in their fun-loving drawings found in many children's books. I can't wait to go back to the Hult Center to see what the next collection will be.

However, the art gallery was just an added plus to my first adventure through the Hult Center. The real grandeur of the building came as we hiked our way up the stairs to the fourth floor nosebleed seats. As soon as we entered the theater, I was in heaven. The place was so nice and had such a wonderful ambiance. I liked being up so high because it let me look at the entirety of the room. I would love to go see an opera or a symphony at the Hult Center someday. I've heard that these frequently come there, so it is now a must that I attend one. The building is just perfect for that type of showing.

The play itself was a lot of fun. The woman sitting next to me was having a grand old time, laughing hysterically, clapping her hands, quoting parts of the play, and singing along to any song she could! There were some definite funny parts in the play and I loved that they incorporated some jokes into it that related to the Eugene community. Although, they tried to make a joke about one of them wearing a cape made out of the finest Oregon State beaver hide and accidentally said Ohio State. It's the thought that counts though!

I think it is becoming a theme in my blogs that I love to go do new things and explore the parts of Eugene that make it such a unique place to go to school. All students should go see something at the Hult Center while they're here.
