Eugene. Welcome Home.

Yesterday, I packed my Chevy up with all of my purchases from New York and everything I had forgotten I had brought back home to California and headed north. The target time for departure was 2:00pm, which means that I left California at around 4:30pm. Not bad.

Although I haven't driven that beautiful stretch of highway 101 along the ocean to the gorgeous highway 199 along the Smith River for quite a while now, it all still seemed so familiar. I'm going into my fourth year at the UO this term, so by now I have driven that stretch from home to Eugene many, many times. I know its every curve. I know where every California Highway Patrol car hides. I know its greenery and the way the leaves change color in the fall through a certain stretch. I felt good driving back to Eugene. After an adventurous summer, it was time.

My dad was following about an hour behind me. He was bringing up some furniture in his truck for my new place. The plan was to move it in that night, but we didn't get in until nearly 10:00pm, so we waited until today. I was so excited to sleep my first night in my gorgeous new studio. My new studio is beyond words the best possible place any college student could ever dream to live in. I found it through a friend of a friend. It is a little unit that is on the property of a larger house. My tenants are such great people and the scenery is amazing. I am surrounded by picturesque forest views.

When I woke up in the morning, it was so peaceful. My place gets really bright because it is full of skylights and big windows. I sleep up in a cozy loft and when I open my eyes, I see out a window right in front of me. It looks like a framed painting of green trees. My place is perfect.

My dad came today and dropped off the furniture and will be back next weekend with my desk. One of the pieces of furniture that we moved in is what will now be my official craft table. This studio inspires me to create again. In my previous living situations, I hadn't been able to find the right space to paint in and since I love to paint, this has been quite a shame. Now, I have my own space, my own table, and I gaze out into a magnificent forest full of inspiration. I love my studio. I am so excited to finally have my own place. It is my belief that everyone needs to try out the roommate thing for a couple of years, but that eventually it will lead to the knowledge that living alone is preferable. This place will be a complete representation of self.

It feels good to be back in Eugene. The energy is so alive here and I can't wait to start my classes. Although, I'm sure I might change my mind once the homework starts getting assigned.
