It is crazy to think that winter term is here already! Of all the terms, I have to be honest and say that it is my least favorite of all the terms. The mornings are dark when you wake up, the evenings are dark when you walk home from class, and it is always raining! Winter term traditionally I try to take harder classes to get them over with. That way, when the sun comes out I can go out and enjoy it. This term, I am taking four classes: BA 453, SBUS 452, MGMT 335 and GER 354.
BA 453: This is the final business core class I will take at the University. It is the capstone class, and a class where I will finally get the classic "when will I ever use this material?" question answered. BA 453 ties together all the Finance, DSC, Marketing, and Management classes I have taken so far into a final project I will complete over 10 weeks. Luckily, I got to choose my own group and will work on this project with my four friends Tonya, Tulsi, Cara, and Meagan.
SBUS 452: For my Sports Business concentration, I will take this class called Sports Sponsorship. This class also has a large project where we initiate a new sponsorship deal for a sports entity. I didn't get to choose my group for this project which is kind of a bummer, but I have taken classes with my group members before and think we will all work well together. I am very excited for this class and this project because I feel it will be great experience to talk about when looking for jobs.
MGMT 335: This class, Launching New Ventures, is an entrepreneurial class for all entrepreneurship concentrations. So far, it is BY FAR my favorite class. The professor is engaging, the material is interesting, and the lecture is interactive. On the first day of class, we were given a stack of newspapers and a group and had to make a list of possible business ventures. This brainstorming session with my group yielded hundreds of ideas.
GER 354: One of the business school requirements is called global context. This requirement is in place to make sure students get a global perspective while at the University of Oregon. For my global context, which I have put off until my last two terms, I have decided to study Germany. Luckily, I have one political science that will count towards this requirement. This term, my German class is about gender and identity. It should be an interesting class about revolutionary women from Germany history. Although history and gender studies are not my forte, it should be nice to mix up my schedule and have some variety.
Overall, it should be a great term but one with a lot of group work, reading, and homework. But after ten hard weeks, I will have a light spring term before graduation! Good Luck to all my fellow students on a successful term!
