Hello all! My name is Keri.
Currently, I am a senior studying Sports Business and Communications. Most of you probably are thinking "Wow...sports business? That is a really interesting and specific major. What do you plan on doing with that degree, Keri?" Sorry to disappoint you, but the answer to that question is still to be determined. There are so many fascinating and exciting areas of sports business, and right now I am having a hard time narrowing my possibilities to just one field or job function. Ultimately, I would like to find myself working for a professional sports team in the public relations department managing their social networks online... but I think that may be a few years down the road. Before that, I hope to study abroad in London (fall term 2010) and possibly attend graduate school in New York City after. For now, however, I am focusing on completing my final 3 terms here at the University of Oregon and having a little fun in the process.
I moved to Eugene 3 years ago after being born and raised in Salem, OR. I have always been a duck fan, and knew from a young age that I would attend the University of Oregon. I chose UO for three reasons: (1) the Lundquist College of Business, which is one of the best business schools in the Pacific Northwest, (2) staying relatively close to my family in Salem, and (3) FOOTBALL!!! I have always had a passion for duck football, from the time my parents dressed me in Oregon outfits as a baby. My Grandpa has followed the ducks rain or shine, win or loss, for the last 50 years! He is 88 years old and still holds season tickets!!! I have to point out that my other Grandpa is a loyal Beaver fan, and having two granddaughters who were Oregon students broke his heart a little. We tease back and forth all the time, and right now my sister and I enjoy bringing up last year's civil war game whenever we see him. We still love you Grandpa, but GO DUCKS!!! It's going to be another great football season at Autzen!
I have 2 sisters and am smack dab in the middle. My older sister, Kristen, is an Oregon Alum and is now working in Salem as a 4th grade teacher. My younger sister, Katie, is a freshman at Eastern Washington University. Kristen and I thought we taught her better than that, but unfortunately Katie wouldn't listen to our quacks. Katie is going to study nursing, and is on the track team doing pole vaulting and hurdles. She assures us she will always cheer for the ducks, and will always be a duck at heart!
Now that Katie is a freshman, my parents have found themselves as empty nesters for the first time. They seem to be taking it pretty well: my dad has joined a rock band where he plays the electric bass, and my mom recently flew off to Disney Land with her 4 sisters to celebrate her 50th Birthday with Mickey Mouse. Even the family dog, Striker, is enjoying having an empty house, as he is now getting my parents undivided attention!
Here at Oregon, I have managed to keep pretty busy. In addition to classes, I am involved in Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, the Lundquist College of Business Peer Advising program, and soon will be a member of the Warsaw Sports Business Club. Some days I spend more time in the Lillis Complex than I do in my own apartment, but I love every minute of it!
Other than that, I am just your average kid trying to survive business school and make my parents proud. I look forward to blogging with you all and giving you an exclusive sneak peak at real life here on campus!
Keri, this is awesome! I feel so privileged to have made an appearance in your blog! Good luck with the rest of the term, and GO DUCKS! It is definitely another great football season at Autzen - You'll need to cheer extra loud for me the last few games!
