Easter in College

First off, Happy Easter! This year since it was only one week after spring break many of us did not go home to spend this holiday with our families. So instead we created our own versions.

My sorority house mom made an Easter dinner for all those who lived in the house. Many girls painted eggs for local charity groups around Eugene. I personally got together with nine other girls and had a potluck dinner. We made a ham, mashed potatoes, salad, deviled eggs, asparagus and cupcakes. Of course being in college none of us are cooks so we ended up on the phone with our parents the majority of the time. It was a very successful meal of a higher caliber than we are accustomed to at school. Afterwards we walked in the sunshine to an evening church service.

It was a great holiday. As much as I missed being home I realized that I have made one here in Eugene. This is my home and these people are my family. They may not be blood but they are just as important to me as if they were. I have spent four years of my life here and have created a community that is more powerful than I could have ever imagined. I am so thankful for all that I have been given here at the University of Oregon that extends beyond the classroom.
