Whenever I begin to look forward to something fun and exciting that I am about to do, I feel like all of a sudden there are a million things I have to do before I can do it. All week I have been looking forward to departing for Lake Shasta, but I have had to get through three presentations, a final project and a midterm before dedicating all of my time to what will be an epic vacation. I guess that is what you have to expect during week nine. As the term begins to wind down students have to give one last push to finish the term strong.

On Monday I gave a group presentation in my J453 class about a corporate sponsorship that my team was in charge of. On Tuesday I had to give a personal speech in my other journalism class about the use of public relations in sports. I have never been a big fan of public speaking so I was especially nervous before hand. It didn't help that I was the only guy in the room either. As you may or may not know, public relations is a field of study that is predominantly females and my classes are representative of this fact. I gave my third and final group presentation in my management class yesterday. For this presentation my group was responsible for focusing on multiple different aspects of a company that is currently in operation today. My group chose to focus on Verizon and my personal focus was how the company implements diversity into its operational practices.

A project like the one I did for my management class is very beneficial because it allowed me to become more knowledgeable about a company that I interact with on a daily basis. I have had a Verizon phone for years but never have I really learned anything about the company. Through this project I learned that Verizon is actually ranked in the top 10 in the nation for diversity. I learned about some of the things that the company does to make an effort to support diversity. In honor of black history month Verizon decided to form a partnership with the United Negro College Fund. Basically these two organizations partnered to offer a $5,000 scholarship to the winner of an essay writing contest. This was interesting information to learn about a company that I have been invested in for so long.

The final project that I am turning in today is a portfolio that I created for my J452 class. As long as it took me to make this project, it will be highly beneficial because when looking for jobs, many employers like to see some sort of portfolio displaying work that applicants have created. I am glad I was forced to complete this assignment because before taking this class I didn't have any type of portfolio. Now I have one that I can continue to build upon.

I have my last sociology midterm of the term at noon. The second I finish I am going to book it to Target to start my Shasta shopping.
