I can smell the finish line as I am currently two classes down with two more to go. Yesterday I took the final exam in my J452 class. Our class was highly geared towards grammar so our final was an exam that tested our skills in correcting grammar mistakes. The test was kind of tricky but I think I did alright. Grammar is never anyone's favorite but it is important to know for a successful career in any journalistic field. On Wednesday my J453 class ended with our final class presentation. Our group presented a public relations plan for a mock fundraising scenario at a fictional university. It was our professor's last day as he is retiring this year so someone in our class brought in some cupcakes to hold a little end of the year/retirement party. It was a fun way to end the year and it sure beats taking a final. A lot of the journalism classes don't have final exams and if they do they sometimes take place during the tenth week of the term. This is nice because it means one less thing to worry about during finals week. I will spend this weekend studying for my sociology exam which is on Monday and my management exam that takes place on Thursday.
Last night I went to an end-of-year party for my internship with the athletic department that I have been somewhat involved in already this year. My experience has been minimal but I got the spring game under my belt. The party was at Pegasus Pizza, a restaurant and bar that is located just off of campus. I had never eaten at this restaurant before and I was highly impressed with the pizza I ate. Pegasus gained one more customer last night because I will most definitely be returning before I head home for the summer.
My dad called me on the phone today to give me an update about some news that directly affects the University of Oregon. He said that while reading the Denver Post this morning he stumbled across an article that was discussing a possible expansion of the Pacific 10 Conference. The article stated that sometime in the next few weeks the Pac 10 is supposed to make an offer to six teams in the Big 12 Conference: Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. This would essentially make the Pac 10 the Pac 16 and would allow the conference to have and east and west division. Basically, Arizona and Arizona State would join those six teams to create an eastern division and the other eight teams would form the western division. The winners of both divisions would then play each other for the conference championship. An expansion like this would significantly improve the Pac 10 and make it one of the premier conferences in the nation. It will be interesting to see how this potential addition idea will turn out.
