I just finished another day of office hours over at the athletic department, and I had to fight my way through a brutal hail storm on the way home. Spring has shown some promise in the last few weeks but it has yet to show itself in full.
I really hope it does because intramural softball is only a few days away. As of now I'll be playing on a team with my fraternity brothers as I did last season, and I'm sure we're all eager to get back to the playoffs and make a run at the championship. I already have one intramural championship t-shirt and I'd really like to get another. Speaking of softball, the major league baseball season is here again. Opening day always comes faster than I think and I can't believe that baseball is already starting up again. It seems like the Giants just won the world series, and the competitive talk has already begun in our house. It's particularly fun for us because we have the entire National League West covered in our house. I cheer for the Rockies, my roommate from LA cheers for the Dodgers obviously, my two roommates from Portland like the Giants and Padres and we decided to make our fifth roommate an honorary Arizona Diamondbacks fan so that we have it all covered. The bet board in our house already has a few bets on it about who will have the better record at the all-star break. Baseball is America's sport and I'm looking forward to following the Rockies for the next 158 games!
This weekend will be packed full for me personally because there is a handful of different sporting events taking place. The acrobatics and tumbling team begins the championships here in Eugene on Thursday, while the baseball team, softball team and track team all have games/events here as well during the weekend. Luckily for me, I will be over at the softball game, which is perched right above Hayward Field, so I'll be able to catch a little action from both sports.
Although the fall is a ways away still, football is definitely the favorite sport for the majority of University of Oregon students, and I have already begun peeping the schedule for next season. Week one may present us with the toughest game of the season as we will be playing the LSU Tigers in Cowboy Stadium in Arlington. As of now it appears that both teams will be ranked at some combination of three and four in the pre-season polls. This is definitely a game that I will be trying to go to, but at the same time, the Ducks will be playing the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder next season as well. I'll likely be back in Denver for the summer so it would be a blast to see the Ducks in action just up the road. The spring game is coming up in just over three weeks, and I'm excited to see that talent that we'll be putting on the field next season!
