Super Bowl Sunday

The culmination of the 2010-11 NFL season is upon us, and Super Bowl Sunday is here yet again. The Pittsburgh Steelers are making yet another trip to the championship game, and they are taken on by the Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rodgers, who looks to win his first title game, taking the Packers where no one thought he could a few seasons ago.

I have been thinking about the game off and on this week, and I have come to a final prediction. As much as I would like to see the Packers win, I just can't go against the Steelers. They have arguably the best defense in the game and endless weapons on offense. Hines Ward is a constant threat on the offensive side of the ball coupled with the throwing ability of Ben Roethlisberger. Rashard Mendenhall was a key factor in the AFC Championship Game and should be a contributor in today's matchup. On a side note, I have definitely been a part of Steeler-induced heart breaks. In high school I went to the AFC championship game in Denver when the Steelers came to town. The Broncos were routed and the game was out of hand in a hurry. The Steelers are a powerful squad and a win today would grant them their third Super Bowl victory in five years.

While I think the Steelers will take home the Lombardi Trophy, I think the Packers will keep the game close if they play like they have been. Aaron Rodgers has made a name for himself this season and has taken the Packers back to the promised land. He has proven himself as one of the elite quarterbacks in the game. The Packers defense is sold as well behind the linebacking core including Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk. If the Green Bay defense can play with the tenacity it is known for I think the Packers can cause some difficulty on the part of the Steeler offense.

The Steelers have won enough championships as of late, and I would like to see someone else leave with the crown. My boy Dennis Dixon already has a ring and I'm personally not a huge fan of Ben Roethlisberger. I thought he was a good quarterback and I had a lot of respect for him, until he had suspicious allegations brought against him involving a female and night club. His support of his team mates was also brought into question during media day, as he answered a reporter questioning his relationships with some team mates. Big Ben has seen his time and I think Aaron Rodgers is definitely deserving.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the great American traditions dating back decades. There is no better reason to bring everyone together around the television to watch one of America's favorite sporting events. I love watching the hilarious commercials during breaks and seeing the celebration after the game. The final bout is right around the corner so it's time for us to get the party started!
