After being met with a streak of rain after returning to school, the sunshine has finally made its way to Eugene. The rays have been abundant for the majority of the last three days, leaving University of Oregon students with unlimited options for outdoor leisure. In between my classes on Wednesday I walked up to my fraternity to eat lunch, only to find four shirtless hooligans playing frisbee in the front yard. They all commented on the need to take advantage of the sunshine and do a little bronzing. The local tanning salons aren't a usual hot spot for males, so we have to tan the old-fashioned way: standing out in the sun shirtless. I for one am I large advocate of the saying "sun's out guns out." When I was younger I always had a farmers tan from playing baseball and it drove me crazy. My forearms were always nice and tan, but from my elbows up it seemed as though I had been indoors my entire life. Although somewhat goon-like, I will always volunteer to be on the skins team when we play basketball at the church across the street. I must do whatever I can to avoid the return of the infamous farmer's tan.
Today is another beautiful day. I only have one class, from noon to 12:50, and I plan to spend my day outside once class is over. Campus is always a fun place to be on a nice day. The lawn between the Lillis Business Complex and the Knight Library is usually full of people who want to tan, or play frisbee etc. That area is one of the central locations on campus, and is usually high-energy on days like today. As you know from previous blogs, being in greek life requires three hours of community service every term. I always tell myself that I have plenty of time to get this requirement completed, and then week nine rolls around and I am scrambling around to get my hours in. Later today and into tonight I will be volunteering to help set up some special fundraising event. I figured I should probably get my hours done now to save some time towards the end of the term.
I was recently accepted for an internship back home in Denver for the summer. I will be interning at Kroenke Sports Enterprises, located near downtown Denver. I will be working with the corporate sponsorships aspect of the organization. This company owns the Pepsi Center and al of the teams within it. I am excited and I think it will provide me with some exposure to the business world of professional sports. Conveniently, this internship can be run as a part-time commitment, so I think I will do that and try to work for the Rockies as well. I am broke as a joke currently so I figured it would be beneficial to make some money this summer as well.
It about time to get ready for my sociology class. If you are going to be basking in the sunlight this afternoon, I'll meet you there shortly!
