As it always does the summer months fly by in the blink of an eye. In some ways it feels like I just started my internship with Kroenke Sports and already some of the interns are about to leave to head back to school. For a short time I will be the only one back there in our intern cube. As lonely as I will probably be I will have the opportunity to gain experience doing more things that might have otherwise been assigned to other interns. My experience there has been great and I feel like I know a ton about the sports business aspect of corporate sponsorships.
Speaking of internships I recently found out what sports I have been assigned for my internship with the athletic department. My main two will be men's basketball and and baseball, and everyone helps out with football. I have always been a fan of college basketball and I spent a great portion of my life playing baseball so I think these two sports will be a great fit for me.
Because I have been so busy with everything this summer I haven't been able to take any vacations with my family. Tomorrow we are leaving to head up to the mountains for the weekend. Even though I have lived near them my entire life I never get tired of visiting the Rocky Mountains. Although skiing isn't an option in August there are still plenty of things to do. I think tomorrow we are going on a hike that will take us to the top of Beaver Creek Mountain. From there we will be able to get a taste of some of the breathtaking sights available in our beautiful mountains. A stroll around the village is a must as well (mountain town villages are always more cozy and welcoming than big cities full of hustle bustle and honking horns).
The energy in Denver that was at an all-time high after drafting Tim Tebow has recently taken a hit. In the first week of the Denver Broncos training camp, the team has lost two running backs, including Georgia great Knowshon Moreno, and Elvis Dumervil, the ferocious pass rusher known around the league. The running backs should return in short time, but Dumervil, who just agreed to contract terms with the Broncos, could miss the entire season (great-as if last season wasn't enough of a train wreck). While everyone here thinks that Tim Tebow is the saving grace, I just don't see a successful season to come.
If that wasn't bad enough, the Rockies have gone from bad to worse. After a 2-9 road trip the rockies are still struggling. Before heading on the road again, we managed to go 5-3 while we were home. That simply won't cut it. Including last night's debacle, the Rockies have lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates three times in two weeks (mind you, the Pittsburgh Pirates are 25 games out of first place and haven't had a winning season in 14 years). Great work fellas. Time to pick it up if you want a taste of the post season.
