When our boat made it back to the Silverthorn Resort dock at Lake Shasta the general moral of all of the weekend party-goers was much different than it was on Friday afternoon when everyone arrived. On Friday everyone was full of energy and couldn't wait to get out on the lake. On the way back in everyone was defeated, tired and ready to go home.
A weekend out on a lake with the sun beating down is exhausting. When looking forward to the weekend festivities I once again over estimated my physical capabilities. Never did I foresee myself needing to take a nap to build up my energy. I got the award for being the first into the chilly water. Although the water was cold is was much warmer that what I was expecting. Instead of being hit with 100 knives upon impact I was hit with only a few.
Our houseboat blew my mind with its sheer size. I had never been to Lake Shasta before and didn't know what to expect but I was definitely not expecting that. Our boat had three levels on it including a hot tub, a full kitchen and multiple beds and bathrooms. We were in tight quarters for sleeping but everyone found their cozy little spots to snooze.
The weather could not have been better. While sitting on the tanning deck on the top of the boat on Saturday I looked up and noticed that there literally wasn't a cloud in the sky. We utilized the slide that came with the boat and had a great time leaping off of the third deck into the water below. Friends who have had the Shasta experience before have told me that the weather can be kind of rainy and cloudy. Our group lucked out as we didn't feel rain drops until the day we left. What perfect timing.
There were multiple coves and islands scattered all over the lake that people chose to park their boats at for the night. We were eventually able to find an island that was occupied with tons of other Oregon students so it was fun to be able to travel around to other boats and find familiar faces.
I love taking the annual trip to Sunriver in Bend but my Shasta experience puts Sunriver to shame in my personal opinion. People can't really do much outside at Sunriver in the winter because it is so cold. I was shirtless the entire trip because the weather was so nice. I caught as many rays as possible to perfect my body tan that I have been working on since returning to Eugene in January.
We were able to make it through the weekend with no serious injuries. A few minor cuts was all that was endured on our end. Shasta is a great time but it can also be very dangerous. I have heard some horrifying Shasta stories and I am glad that we were able to make it through unscathed.
By the way, I don't know if anyone is aware, but Ubaldo Jimenez is currently 10-1 with a .78 ERA. Un heard of.
