Sitting at breakfast with a headache this morning must be a sign that dads weekend was a huge success. All of the dads have left town, but this was a weekend for the record books.
The festivities began on Friday night once all of the dads were in and they didn't stop until the night ended on Saturday. On Friday night we played some casual drinking games in our house, allowing all of the old guys to get back in the grind of the college life.
On Saturday morning everyone woke up feeling a little hazy, but we all rallied and made our way over to the tailgater, established by the large winnebago that was brought up by my roommate's uncle. I am usually required to stay over at the athletic department before the games, but given that my dad was here I was allowed to tailgate for a few hours before the game started. Our tailgater had all of the necessary elements for a good time: good people, barbeque, and a keg. Even though I was working, I am just an unpaid intern after all, so I took my fair share of refills from the keg. Tailgates all around us were equipped with satellite capability, so while we were all relaxing and having a good time we were able to watch some of the other games around the country.
As game time neared I had to head back into Autzen to lend a hand in all of the pre-game activities. My duties during the game were pretty light, and I was able to pick the AMP student fan of the game. Oregon won the game of course, but the way in which we did it was anything but expected. I thought that the Ducks would trounce a Washington team that is already not that good, but also without its highly-praised quarterback Jake Locker. I definitely didn't expect that with six minutes left in the second quarter the game would be tied at three. Even at one point in the third quarter the Ducks were only up by six. I have to admit that it was one of the uglier games I have seen from the Ducks this season, but by the time the game had ended Oregon had amassed over 50 points and had only given up 16. The end result was what it was expected to be, but Oregon just got there in an ugly way. Regardless, Oregon remains un-beaten and at the top of the BCS standings.
After the game we headed back to the tailgate and drank some more delicious keg beer while we analyzed Oregon's ninth win of the season. From there we went back to out house once again and the drinking games continued. We taught our dads everything there is to know about beer pong and flip cup, and I'm glad that they had the opportunity to live the college life again for a weekend. It flew by too fast but dads weekend 2010 was a weekend for the ages.
