Getting back into class mode can sometimes be difficult but the first week of fall term is over and I feel like I am already acquainted with my classes and my day to day schedule. On Mondays and Wednesdays I work over at the athletic department from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and then I head to my animal behavior class. My Tuesdays and Thursdays are busier as I have a full day of classes, but no work. I have never been a huge mathematics fan but for the most part I like all of my classes and I don't think I should have any problems this term.
In my international communications class we have begun to talk about the history of communication on a world wide level. We are learning about massive international news agencies that were formed way back in the day and how communication was vital during specific time periods in American history.
My English class seems like it should be pretty interesting and we are already reading our first book, "White Fang." I am only about 50 pages into the book but I am enjoying the story and I really don't mind reading it, unlike the assigned reading for some other classes. It is definitely the type of story that I am interested in and reading it should make for a fun beginning to the class.
Math 106 is going well. It was kind of confusing at first but after meeting with the instructor for a few minutes I feel like I have good grasp on the material. From time to time my friends like to give me a hard time for being in math 106. These first round picks in the academic draft have taken 200 level math classes and think it's a joke to be in math 106. The funny thing is that they have never heard of anything being talked about in the class. The other day I asked my roommate if he knew how to convert 500 base two into base eight. After staring at me like a deer in the head lights he said he had never heard of that before. It's definitely not something that I was taught in high school and it is an entirely new way of thinking. Don't let anyone tell you that your math class is a joke because chances are they probably couldn't even do your homework.
My animal behavior class is pretty cool. Next week in our discussion section we are going outside to observe whatever animals we can find. Having class outside definitely beats being stuck in a classroom, and I am excited to partake in my first ever animal watch. Sure I have seen animals, but I have never really observed them in depth before.
As it seems to every year, College Game Day is once again making an appearance in Eugene as the number nine ranked Stanford Cardinal makes its way to Eugene. This game has Pac 10 championship implications and should be the best game played in Autzen this season. As of now, my plan is to take it easy tonight so I can get up early to head over to the show. It's hard to get up early but I figured it's my last chance to be a part of the madness.
Saturday should be a great day and will hopefully end with a win for the Ducks!
