I slept in rather late today, considering that I didn't crawl into my bed until 2 a.m. this morning. Working night games for the Rockies usually means a long night. When the team leaves to head back to the hotel at around 11 p.m. the post game work is just beginning for our group. Last night was my night to clean the bathrooms, so I did that while others took care of the laundry, food etc.
Thinking I was going to be able to sleep in this morning, I woke up to the sound of my 80-year-old (in dog years) brittany spaniel whining for his morning meal. At this point in his life he doesn't really seem to care about anyone else, as long as everything is convenient for him.
After eating a delicious meal with my brother at Einstein's I sit here in my room writing this blog. My plans for the day are rather minimal. After I am finished here I am planning to hit the gym hard. I realized when I came home that I am carrying around some unnecessary poundage and I could definitely stand to lose a couple "lb's" (then again can't we all?).
As the day winds down I will be traveling to my softball game at a nearby recreation center. Since I have been home my team is 1-1. We won with little resistance last week and lost a nail-biter the week before. I guess one thing I need to do on the field is try to control my emotions. I know it is just a game, but emotions in beer-league softball are at an all time high. I was thrown out of last week's game after being called out late in the game. Softball is rather quirky in that each batter is only allowed a certain number of foul balls per plate appearance. After hitting my third foul ball I was called out and proceeded to throw my bat into the ground. After witnessing my antics the umpire decided to throw me out of the game. I thought to myself, "Lady, did you really just throw me out of rec softball?" Nevertheless I was canned and was forced to sit on the bench cheering for the remainder of the game. After I was ejected I considered making a scene and kicking dirt on her shoes Lou Piniella style, but I figured that was probably a little over the top for a softball game.
My wish came true as the clouds are finally out in force today. Hopefully my room won't feel like a sauna when I hit the hay tonight.
The 4th of July is right around the corner and I still don't have any idea what I will be doing. I went to Fort Collins last summer (home to Colorado State University) which was a blast, but I don't know if I want to make the two-hour trek again. One thing is for sure however: I will have an abundance of fireworks to celebrate Independence Day with a bang, literally.
