After a long and tiring battle with furniture, clothes and you name it, we finally had our old apartment in The Calvin completely empty. It was strange to stand in the kitchen and literally see nothing. All of the trash and all of the leftovers had been removed, including the table that we generously donated by shoving it off of our balcony. It felt like we just moved in and it was weird to think that I wouldn't ever be going back.
It's ok though because the general consensus among all of us is that our new place for this school year is much cooler than our old pad. There is still one room in the new place that has been designated as our room for all of the boxes that we still have. We don't have too many left but you never realize how much junk you actually have until you move out of somewhere. It didn't help either that one guy forgot to empty out his closet before he left. We had to get a big trash bag and just stuff his junk in it.
One of the biggest worries for all college students when they are moving out is whether or not they will get back any security deposit money. I wouldn't say that are house was damaged enough that we won't get any of it back, but there are definitely some red flags in the air. The three of us who were here last weekend did whatever we could to make the house look spotless. Our toilet on the main floor was in pretty bad shape after we found that someone at one of our parties decided that it would be funny to stick a plant into it. My roommate bought some heavy duty cleaning supplies that he put to the test to try to remove all of the dirt.
There are some things unfortunately that can't be fixed. Our wall leading up to the main floor was beaten up after our couch dug into it when we were moving it in last fall. There are scrapes all over the wall that I am sure our realty company won't be too thrilled about.
We are going to lose another large chunk once they find the window upstairs that has been cracked across the whole face. None of us know how it happened but it isn't too shocking considering that we had six guys crammed into a house. It's only a matter of time before something breaks. My advice would be to try as hard as possible to keep your house in good shape or else it will come back to bite you in the end.
We had to hide our sixth roommate from the realtor all year because they would have forced him out if they had found out that we had six people in a five-room house. We had to hide his bed in the closet every time someone came by to check in. I know we broke the rules but can you really blame us? We were just trying to make our monthly rent a little less.
Even though we just moved in I'll be leaving our new house to head up to Portland for the weekend. The Ducks take on the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday in what should be a real test for our team that had no problem getting through week one.
