Considering that I won't be able to make it home for Thanksgiving this year, my dad has decided to make a visit to Eugene this weekend for the game against the Washington Huskies. I unfortunately have to inform him that he might not have chosen the best game of the season to attend, but it's always fun to get to go to a game in Autzen Stadium. The Huskies haven't been to much of a challenge for the Ducks over the past few seasons, but this year, they are without their quarterback Jake Locker, who might be the only positive aspect of the team. Many of my friends and I have agreed that this game, like a few others this season, could be decided by halftime. It's not what we asked for, but I guess it comes with being the best team in the nation.
In a controversial move last weekend, the Oregon Ducks jumped the Auburn Tigers for the number one spot in the BCS standings. I say that it was rather controversial because usually teams get jumped only when they lose. Not only did Auburn win this last weekend, but they won on the road at Ole Miss by 20 points. Granted, the Ducks victory over the Trojans was impressive, but I honestly don't know if it should have allowed us to move ahead of the Tigers. Nonetheless we are where we are and I have to say that it feels phenomenal.
Tomorrow night I am working at the first exhibition game of the season for the men's basketball team. We are playing Northwest Christian University from right down the road, and it shouldn't be too much of a task for the Ducks, who take direction from first year Head Coach Dana Altman from Creighton. With a new coach and a new arena right around the corner, I know many University of Oregon students are excited for the season to begin. After the game, my dad and I will be meeting up with my roommates and their dads to do a little bar hopping around the Eugene area. As I stated last week, we decided to have a house dad's weekend for the UW game, and it came much faster than it seemed it would. Regardless, the dads are filing in and it should be a great weekend.
For the past few days I have been making my way back and forth to the Northwest Surgical Center in Springfield. Believe it or not, I actually have a hernia and am in the process of trying to get it fixed. I usually try to leave my life's negative aspects out of my blogosphere, but this is honestly one of the more significant things that has happened to me recently, medically speaking. The doctor I saw told me that it will require surgery, and lately I have been in the process of trying to figure out when that will be. My roommate's mother is a doctor down in Los Angeles, and she thinks that I developed the hernia from cheering too much at the USC game last weekend. Looking on the bright side, I guess no one can accuse me of not cheering enough. That's just what happens when your team is NUMBER 1 BABY!
