While I am fully aware that I should be paying attention while I sit here in class, I am, after all, in a social media class and it has been taught that blogging is a large component of social media, so I figured now would be a great time!
There are many other unproductive activities that I could be participating in by the way. As I am sitting here in the back row of the classroom, I can see many other open computers displaying far less productive things. The girl a few rows in front of me is having a furious conversation on Facebook chat while the guy a little bit to my right is watching a compilation of the greatest NHL fights of all time. I gotta say that I find the latter far more interesting and have taken a couple breaks already to watch some of the action.
Today has been one of the more promising days in Eugene of the spring term so far. For the last few hours the sun has been shining non-stop and and the wind has been non-existent. If you recall, one of the frustrating issues with last spring term was that whenever it was sunny, it was also incredibly windy. I got a little jealous on my way to this class today because there was a decent mass of people settled on the Knight Library lawn soaking up all the rays. I know it will be sunny on many more days than just today, but with the winter season just ending, I want to take advantage of as much sun as possible.
For those of you who have seen the movie "She's Out of My League," you'll likely get a kick out of the game that my roommates and I put together last night. Recently my roommate came home from Portland with a pair of old hockey sticks that he has had in his garage. Upon returning to Eugene we came up with the great idea of creating our own "slapshot regatta" for our house. Last night was the first night of action, and we started by creating a puck out of a ball of tin foil that we wrapped in athletic tape. We then determined that the goal would simply be the gap in the walkway from our living room to the stairs. I stepped into the net first and was equipped with less than adequate goalie gear. I had a stick of course, but on my head I wore a University of Nebraska plastic football helmet, and my goalie "glove" was a large stove pot top that I held in my left hand. I'm sure we looked ridiculous, but I am a complete stone wall and am determined to take home the regatta trophy for the year.
Living in a house with five guys has been a blast because we have conjured up some ridiculous ideas that I would never have been able to think of my own. I have had a blast this year and come next fall I will definitely miss all of the fun that comes with living with four great friends!
