My review in Portland is only a few days away, and my portfolio is coming along nicely. The other day I printed out all of the different pieces that I want to be included. I have about 20 right now and that seems like just the right amount. I even remembered to grab a copy of the schedule cards and trading cards that I have been working on over at the athletic department. Tonight's task was to get all of my pieces labeled and placed in the actual portfolio book. It looks pretty good and it should look even better by the time it is all done.
My review is at nine in the morning on Friday so I'm gonna have to get up at the crack of dawn to make it in time. The reviews will take place at the White Stag Building in old town Portland, which is the current location of the UO Portland campus. I have never actually been there but I have heard from those who have that it is pretty top of the line. This should be an interesting experience for me personally because I have never actually had to present a portfolio to a panel of reviewers. I'm sure I'll be nervous but it will be good practice and I'm excited to get some feedback on my portfolio.
This Thursday and Saturday I'll be getting my last Oregon basketball action of my UO career. The women's team has two more games to be played at home, and then the Oregon basketball action will be complete until next fall. However, just because there won't be any more Oregon teams playing in the arena for a while doesn't mean that professional athletes can't use the facility. Next Tuesday the 8th, Matthew Knight Arena will be hosting the "Nike Clash of Champions," featuring the best tennis players in the world. Rafael Nadal will be competing against Roger Federer while Maria Sharapova takes on Victoria Azarenka. The event sold out in a matter of minutes when tickets went on sale, and I know people who have paid more than $360 to get a peak of the action. I get to attend for free and have been assigned a special role along with a few other interns.
I will be responsible for escorting Victoria Azarenka around the arena, making sure she is everywhere she needs to be by the time she needs to be there. I am pretty excited for the opportunity and it should be a great time. I just want to try to snag a picture with Maria before the event is over (if I do it will be my facebook profile for the rest of my life).
A couple weeks from now the professional bull riding tour will make a stop in Eugene. I have no idea how they are going to get all that dirt here but it will be fun to get a little rodeo atmosphere in MKA. It's nice to have Matthew Knight Arena because now there is a larger variety of events that the UO can put on. I'm glad we are taking advantage of it, and I can't wait for the 8th!
