A Little Week Two Tradition.

After four years at the University of Oregon I have come to learn that the second week of every term is street fair week on campus. There is a long drive way that makes its way from the student union to the bookstore, and it is fully lined on both sides with tents and carts that have all kinds of goodies to sell. Some of the venders sell different types of unique food, while others sell artwork and items that are visually appealing. One vendor was selling uniquely hand-crafted dreamcatchers while another was selling feathers to be pinned in someone's hair. There is always a ton of diversity at the street fair and it is certainly a standout week of every term. I never let the week pass without buying something.

Given my love of eating I go to the street fair for the food. Every time I make a stop I never walk right up and make my order. I always have to take a little time to make the best decision, because there are so many choices. Choosing a place to eat at the street fair is similar to choosing somewhere to eat in a large food court. It's tough. Hawaiian barbeque, Indian food, vegetarian, cheesesteaks, oriental, desert foods you name it. The possibilities are endless and many regions of the world are represented in one place. It's too bad the fair only rolls by once each term, but I guess it's probably a good thing because it lets me keep some money in my wallet.

The major league baseball playoffs are underway and have been pretty exciting so far. Watching isn't as fun without the Rockies involved but I guess there is always next year. The most exciting series in the national league would certainly have to be the Giants vs. the Braves. The Phillies should have no problem with the Reds, but Atlanta and SFO are knotted at one. A late Rick Ankiel home run was all the Braves needed to get a win last night. On the other side of the board the Yankees are dominating the Twins and the Rangers-Rays series is a game apart as the first three games have been won by the visiting team. It's still early, but I see the Phils and the Yanks meeting up for the grand finale.

During my first year at Oregon a lot of people talked about the East Coast bias against West Coast teams and how those who live in the eastern states don't get too much exposure to a conference like the Pacific 10. However, as of recently I have noticed that the Ducks are receiving way more nationwide media coverage. In the last month I have seen multiple Oregon Ducks commercials on ESPN, and the Ducks have a huge article in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated. The other day I was surfing the web and upon landing at SI.com (I think) I noticed that three of the 10 big topics on the page involved the U of O. The Ducks football team hits the field in Pullman tomorrow eager to extend the win streak to 6-0 in a matchup that should be a cake walk.
