You know UO has world-class faculty. What you may not have known is that faculty and staff members are also supporting education through making private gifts. This year alone over 600 faculty and staff made a gift as part of the It's Our Oregon, faculty and staff giving initiative. "I know the university is a good cause. I know how they spend the money, and I can see the benefits to the students," said Patricia McDowell, Professor of Geography, when asked why she gives back.
Alumni, friends, corporations and foundations note when our faculty and staff, those who know the institution best, endorse and support its operations with their own hard-earned money.
As we continue to build on what has been an extraordinarily successful period in the history of the university, it's amazing to see UO faculty and staff continue their ongoing support because it is critical to ensuring our place among the world's best teaching and research universities.
Every day at UO, faculty and staff give of themselves in many ways. They are also imagining how much further we can go because of private gifts.
Even if it's a little bit from each person, it makes a difference...
"Nothing is more important than the students we are supporting, I firmly believe in the idea that it takes a village to raise a child. It doesn't stop when they turn 18 or when they are done with high school. They need our help and support. We should help them with that, even if it's a little bit from each person, it makes a difference."
