Fund Type(s): Campus, Students

Leadership StudentDedicated to providing students the opportunity to explore the most pressing social issues facing communities throughout the nation, the Alternative Break Program facilitates short-term service experiences aimed to inspire, educate and empower participants to make a difference in the lives of others. Trips occur in locations throughout the country and focus on a variety of topics, including poverty, illiteracy, youth development, cultural exploration, sustainability and humanitarianism. A gift to the Alternative Break Fund will allow the Service Learning Program to expand the experience and create new locations, allow for more students to attend, and will provide scholarships for participants in need.

Testimonials from students who participate in the Alternative Break Program:

"For me it's just gaining the strength not to be silent anymore. I've had several occasions where I've been able to offer the truth of what I've experienced. I'm not trying to change their political views on immigrant issues or anything, but just let them know. The trip gave me courage to generate dialogue about these issues-even with my parents."
